The month October is the scariest month of the year. The ghouls, demons, and spirits truly emerge during these 31 days. Not only do we decorate and dress up, but wrestling/wrestlers like to go above and beyond for Halloween. Some of these wrestlers truly embrace the Halloween spirit 365 days and that makes for a truly unique experience.
There have been demons, demon slayers, undead creatures and supernatural beings throughout the history of wrestling. Most notable names include The Undertaker, Kane and Bray Wyatt (The Fiend). I wanted to showcase a few that may not get as much recognition or love as the names mentioned above, or ones that truly, to me, embrace the spooky/Halloween vibes
Abadon (They/Them) [AEW]:
Abadon is the “living dead girl” on All Elite Wrestling tv They just recently had an AEW Women’s Championship match on AEW Collison. Abadon has the aesthetic of a walking, talking “living dead girl”. The white face paint, the green hair, hell even the in-ring work scream Halloween/spooky vibes. I, as much as quite a few other people in the community would love to see this great presence on tv more; not just a few matches here and there specifically during Halloween season. Yes, they were injured once or twice and that required them to miss quite a bit of television. But especially with a strong women’s division that is not mentioned or seen enough on tv it might take some time before we see them again. We cannot wait for when that day comes!
Danhausen (He/Him) [AEW]:
Very Nice, Very Evil. Danhausen, with his white, black and hint of red face paint, screams Halloween and spooky vibes. Let’s not forget that he also has supernatural powers, or as it is deemed, “The Curse”. While he is currently off t.v. because he is injured, he did make a few vignettes showcasing his soon return. These vignettes are a parody of the “Silver Shamrock” song from Halloween III: Season Of The Witch, which is absolutely amazing. While AEW fans know him as this more nice than evil version, the evil side of Danhausen is scary. We got a quick glimpse on t.v. when he had a jar of “human” teeth. He has also said in an interview that the “very nice, very evil” is based on cult leaders and how they have to be nice to people in order to get people to join their cults. That alone is absolutely terrifying. Danhausen, when he returns on tv is going to steal the show and if not, he may have to put a curse or two on some people.
Rosemary (She/Her) [Impact/TNA]:
“The Demon Assassin” Rosemary has quite literally gone to the “Undead Realm” on countless occasions. She has utilized the cinematic atmosphere to her advantage and helped the character and storylines she is in grow to new heights. Her face paint, for the most part, has been the bottom part of the skull, helps give her the appearance of the assassin. Fighting demons, being a part of groups named Decay and Death Dollz, and traveling to the Undead Wasteland. As someone who does not watch Impact/TNA on the regular, I have found myself being enthralled with Rosemary and the spooky cinematic they have created. The idea of a Demon Assassin being a wrestler and having to fight demons and undead brides is a cool way to express the Halloween spirit all year round.
House Of Black (Buddy Matthews, Brody King, Malakai Black & Julia Hart) [AEW]:
The House Always Wins. The idea of the House Of Black being a group of wrestlers, bound by darkness and 2 of the members having the ability to mist their opponents screams spooky. Both Malakai and Julia have misted quite a few people, and they are not the same once it happens. Black was the one who misted Julia leading to her joining the House. The entire aesthetic of the group feeds off the creepy vibe. Shutting the lights out before they appear, giving them that “power” essentially helps throw their opponents into dismay. Tarot cards have been used quite frequently during the beginning of the House growing full strength. Mainly, Hart is the one who gives off the more “witchy’ spooky vibes, leading her to be able to hold her own while the rest of the House were off t.v. for a little bit of time.
Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn [WWE]:
The creators of the women’s tag team titles curse. These witches or followers of the dark arts taking claim of a “curse” that many people in the community talked about was genius! The pairing of Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn back when they were in NXT was a smart move. Dawn threw red powder (much like a mist) into the eyes of Fyre and the transformation began. From the moment the 2 were on the same page and using the supernatural powers that be, they won gold. We don’t need to talk about them losing the titles, but the vignettes since they returned have been incredible. Outside in the moonlight, by an altar, talking about the curse and how they caused it because they lost their own titles. The powerful witches have yet to return to in-ring action, but the time is running out for the current women’s tag teams and more specifically the champions…
I know there are quite a few people I may have missed, so please feel free to tell me who you like to see next! Whether it is more Halloween-esque wrestlers or one of your favorites, let me know who you want to read about next.
